CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

Is to create, develop and facilitate the acquisition of musical knowledge and skills by individuals in order that they can function effectively within the music profession and as productive members of the broader society.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • To deliver high quality undergraduate and potential post graduate teaching in music theory and music history as well as associated musicology courses.
  • To supervise student research projects at undergraduate and potentially post graduate levels.
  • To contribute to curriculum development and pedagogical innovation.
  • To maintain an active research profile leading to high-quality publications and potential for eternal funding
  • To participate in academic administration, assessment, and student support
  • To engage with external communities and contribute to public scholarship in music.

CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Expertise in music theory and music history, with the ability to teach across a broad historical and stylistic range.
  • A strong research agenda (or clear potential) of publications in reputable peer-reviewed platforms.
  • Experience in (or strong potential for) teaching at tertiary level, with a commitment to inclusive and effective pedagogical practices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across music disciplines, including performance, composition and ethnomusicology.

REQUIREMENTS

In order to be considered for appointment to this post at Lecturer level, candidates should have a relevant Master’s degree and 2 years relevant and/or related work experience. For Associate lecturer, a BMus (Honours equivalent) degree and 1 year of relevant and/or related work experience is required.
