CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

To independently conceptualise, design, and produce high-quality visual communication and marketing materials that effectively support Nelson Mandela University’s strategic goals and brand identity. This role delivers creative solutions across print and digital platforms and collaborates closely with senior team members while ensuring adherence to institutional standards.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

Creative Design Development and Execution

  • Independently develop and execute creative design projects across various media in line with approved briefs.
  • Produce innovative visual materials that are aligned with project objectives and brand requirements.
  • Ensure timely delivery of high-quality, brand-compliant design outputs in accordance with corporate identity standards and agreed deadlines.

Stakeholder Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand communication needs and translate them into effective visual solutions.
  • Interpret design briefs and provide professional design recommendations informed by best practice.
  • Deliver design solutions that meet or exceed client expectations through effective communication and high levels of client satisfaction.

Production-Ready Artwork and Technical Compliance

  • Prepare and deliver print-ready and digital files in accordance with required technical specifications.
  • Ensure all artwork meets production, publication, and platform standards prior to final delivery.
  • Produce error-free, production-ready deliverables that fully comply with print and digital technical requirements.

Design Support, Supervision, and Quality Assurance

  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and quality checks to ensure consistency and accuracy of design outputs.
  • Contribute to smooth workflow management, effective collaboration, and consistent quality across team deliverables.

Digital Asset and File Management

  • Maintain and organise digital asset libraries, ensuring proper version control and accessibility.
  • Manage design files, templates, and related documentation in line with organisational standards.
  • Ensure well-maintained, structured, and easily accessible design repositories through efficient file management processes.

Professional Development and Industry Awareness

  • Stay current with emerging design trends, software updates, and industry best practices.
  • Participate in relevant professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Apply new insights and techniques to deliver innovative design approaches and support continuous improvement.

Brand Governance and Regulatory Framework Contribution

  • Contribute to the development and refinement of brand-related regulatory frameworks.
  • Provide input into institutional brand guidelines, policies, and compliance measures.
  • Support the maintenance of a strengthened, current, and compliant brand governance framework aligned with institutional, legal, and strategic brand requirements.
 

REQUIREMENTS

  • National Diploma in Graphic Design or equivalent (BTech/Advanced Diploma preferred)
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) on Mac systems
  • Minimum 3–5 years professional experience in graphic design, preferably within a marketing, communications, or branding environment
  • Demonstrated experience producing creative work across both print and digital media
