CORE PURPOSE OF JOB


The purpose of this post is to plan, design and collaboratively facilitate learning and teaching development activities in order to impact positively on student learning at Nelson Mandela University. KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
.
•To coordinate and participate in the processes of rendering a comprehensive higher education learning and teaching strategy to all academic staff at Nelson Mandela University
•To closely monitor, determine and support the needs of academic staff pertaining to learning, teaching and assessment matters on the George campus
•To implement the Academic Induction Programme for newly appointed academics on the George campus
in collaboration with the Beginning Your Journey (BYJ) @ Mandela University coordinator
•To participate in developing and implementing policies and procedures related to best practices of learning, teaching, and assessment.
•To contribute to the scholarship of teaching and learning SoTL
•To holistically support collaborative curriculum development at institutional level
•To engage with additional academic enhancement initiatives, as assigned by the Director of Teaching Development


CORE COMPETENCIES
•Comprehensive understanding of the principles and best practices related to teaching and learning development
•Ability to initiate and coordinate professional development programmes for staff at different levels
•Proven research competency and interest in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)
•Experience of curriculum design and development in Higher Education
•Ability to work within tight timeframes and productively in the absence of close supervision
•Excellent networking, collaborative and teamwork abilities
•Excellent report-writing and communication skills
•High-level problem solving and conflict management abilities


REQUIREMENTS


In order to be considered for appointment to this post, candidates must preferably possess an appropriate Master’s degree (e.g., in Education or Higher Education), with at least five years’ experience in the field of professional staff and curriculum development at a higher education level, in which competency has been gained.
