CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

The purpose of this academic post is to create, develop and facilitate the acquisition of musical knowledge and skills by individuals in order that they can function effectively within the music profession and as productive members of the broader society.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
  • To teach studio voice lessons in jazz and contemporary music and lead vocal ensembles.
  • To accompany singing for individual singing and for vocal ensembles.
  • To facilitate the learning and teaching in the department.
  • To incorporate appropriate recording and sound technology in music teaching and performance.
  • To conduct and publish research and/or produce appropriate performances and creative outputs.
  • To perform academic and music engagement.
  • To perform administration.

 

 

CORE COMPETENCIES
  • In-depth knowledge of the theory and application of jazz and contemporary voice.
  • Experience at facilitating learning at undergraduate level.
  • Ability to contribute to the creation of knowledge and music performance or the potential to contribute by virtue of publications and/or appropriate creative outputs, and the potential to supervise postgraduate candidates.

REQUIREMENTS

In order to be considered for appointment to this post at lecturer level, candidates should have a Master’s degree with 2 years relevant experience and supervision experience. If shortlisted, candidates could be expected to teach a demonstration lesson as part of an interview.
