CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

To lecture at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, conduct and publish research within the discipline of tourism, supervising postgraduate students as well as deal with administrative work.

 

 

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • Facilitate teaching and learning of tourism
  • Conduct and publish research in peer-reviewed and accredited journals
  • Supervise postgraduate students
  • Efficient academic administration as required by the Head of Department
  • Capacity to work well with the other members of the Department of Tourism

CORE COMPETENCIES

 

  • Knowledge of the theory and application of tourism
  • Ability to facilitate learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Ability to administer modules involving large numbers of students
  • Ability to co-ordinate academic programmes in the Department of Tourism
  • Ability to work with other staff members in the Department of Tourism
  • Ability to provide efficient administration as required by the Head of Department
  • Ability to supervise at postgraduate level

 

 

 

 

REQUIREMENTS

In order to be considered for appointment to a Senior Lecturer post, the potential candidate must have a relevant Doctoral degree with discipline-specific knowledge in Tourism and 1-5 years’ experience in facilitating learning and teaching in Tourism at undergraduate and postgraduate levels at a tertiary institution. Experience in supervising postgraduate research is essential as well as a record of journal publications.

In order to be considered for an appointment to a Lecturer post, the potential candidate must have a relevant, discipline-specific Masters’ degree in Tourism and 2 years’ experience in facilitating learning and teaching in Tourism at undergraduate and postgraduate level at a tertiary institution. Experience in supervising research and a record of journal publications is a requirement.
