CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

To facilitate and administer the learning process for students in Marine Engineering modules presented by the Department of Marine Engineering at undergraduate and post graduate levels. Also, to conduct research in the Marine Engineering area, contribute to community engagement and to be involved in the core functions of the University.

 

 

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • ·       Facilitate the learning processes and outcomes of the Marine Engineering programme.
  • ·       Conduct, supervise and publish research.
  • ·       Perform academic engagement.
  • ·       Perform administration.
  • ·       Develop marine related SLP's{Short Learning Programmes)

CORE COMPETENCIES

 

  • ·       In depth knowledge of the theory and application of marine high-speed engines and working environments and experience on Wartsila Engines and equipment.
  • ·       Specialization in Ship Energy and Efficiency.
  • ·       A broad knowledge of the shipping maritime industry and a keen interest in the education of aspiring seafarers.
  • ·       Teaching/lecturing experience at the higher education level
  • ·       Curriculation experience in Marine Engineering
  • ·       Knowledge of SAMSA(South African Maritime Safety Authority) requirements for Higher Education
  • ·       Ability to facilitate learning at undergraduate level and potential to contribute at postgraduate level.
  • ·       Ability to communicate effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • ·       Have contributed or have the potential to contribute to the creation of knowledge by virtue of published research and involvement in relevant engagement activities.
  • ·       Proven ability to work as part of a team.
  • ·       Developed and lectured SLP (Short Learning Programmes) in Marine Engineering and related safety programmes

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

  • ·       Four-year Marine Engineering qualification, or Post Graduate Diploma in a relevant field.
  • ·       Must hold a valid Chief Engineer: Certificate of Competence (Unlimited)
  • ·       Professionally registered with SAMSA or an International equivalent body recognised by the IMO (lnternational Maritime Organisation) and SAMSA with a COE (Certificate of Equivalency)
  • ·       1O years of sea-tlme experience.
  • ·       Additional experience at management level as Chief Engineer will be an advantage.
  • ·       Must be prepared to undergo studies to gain further qualifications in the field of Marine Engineering
